THE PROCESS
The filigrees are a type of goldsmith, it came to Colombia across the Spanish colonization 500 years ago, in consequence, this traditional labor conserves ornamental shapes from Europe. The Mompox filigree process has always been very ancestral and organic. The magic begins once the Gold or Silver threads are reduced to a minimum caliber, at this point the jewelers “start playing” using the imagination and their hand's abilities in order to fill all forms of shapes. The job is done when the shape has been filled with threads spirals, creating spectacular and attractive pieces.
Nowadays, M A J A I S ® has a complete group of Colombian jewelers and artisans around the country, all of them recognized for their ancestral and unique skills.
