Indiana Nema Hat Red

Description

All beaded Huichol patterns are unique and they are handmade with 5590 crystal beads (chaquiras). A wooden weaving loom is used to make each pattern. The Huichol artisan takes one to three days to make one, depending on the complexity of each pattern. All patterns are handmade by Huichol artisans who preserve their culture through their unique art. We are a 100% sustainable brand.

Since 1930, weaving Jipijapa hats is a tradition at Bécal, Campeche. Underground caves are required to make these hats since they provide enough humidity so that the palm does not break or suffer any damage. The art of weaving Jipijapa hats was added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists on 5 December 2012.

    Product Details

Products are made with high-quality, natural materials. Each piece is made and dyed 100% by hand by artisans and can take several days to complete. Since the materials we use to develop them are natural, they can have a variety of characteristics that are intrinsic to the material. For this reason, we cannot promise absolute perfection and none of our products are completely identical. We like to think that this increases the authenticity and character of each piece.

      THE PROCESS

Since 1930, weaving Jipijapa hats is a tradition at Bécal, Campeche. The art of weaving Jipijapa hats was added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists on 5 December 2012. These hats consist of strong yet very flexible fibers which local Mayan people began using to weave straw hats and other craft items. Each hat is weaved into a unique design by artisans who take 1 to 3 days to weave each hat. They weave them in caves, due to the humidity which makes the palm more flexible to weave. Each hat is a unique piece of art using different colors of natural dyed straw to create various patterns. All beaded Huichol patterns are unique and they are handmade with 5590 crystal beads (chaquiras). A wooden weaving loom is used to make each pattern. The Huichol artisan takes one to three days to make one, depending on the complexity of each pattern..

This world, at times, seems too big for us. Massive amounts of energy going in the wrong directions. That inertia can seem overwhelming for one person. But one person, joining others can have an impact. Particularly when the impulse is pure and inspired by a thing of beauty. Our purchase decisions can change the planet’s fate and people’s lives for the better.
